Manchester town hall

The 130-year-old Town Hall clock in Manchester city centre will be stopped for essential maintenance work.The clock will be set to 12 o'clock from Monday while the main drive shaft, which connects the mechanism to the hands, are repaired. .Work on the 53ft (16.15m) drive shaft mechanism last took place in 1882 when the Great Abel hour bell cracked. .Pictured at work .Keith Scobie-Youngs of the Cumbria Clock Company, will machine new bearings at his workshop near Penrith. ..Mark Waugh News.........
